Vehicle telemetry provider Quartix Ltd has launched a unique educational project that gives schools an introduction to the science of vehicle tracking.
Using an internet-based system with no special software requirements, Quartix tracking allows schools and colleges easy access to authentic telemetry data. The vehicle in the spotlight is a Cambridgeshire Schools Library Service BookBus. As it tours the county, refreshing the libraries of schools and nurseries, the locations, times and speeds of every stage of its journeys are logged. This information can be emailed to schools, compiled as daily and weekly reports. Using the world wide web, students can also view the journeys on maps and pinpoint the location of the bus at any moment.
A special project web site explains GPS satellite technology and there are suggestions to help teachers use the topic across the school curriculum.
