Saving fuel costs and reducing risk

Our InfoPlus option includes a comprehensive range of vehicle tracking reports and displays, helping you work with your mobile workforce to improve their driving style, reducing their risk of accident and cutting fuel and Insurance costs all at the same time.

The vehicle tracking reports available range from the daily driver briefing to the league table of driving scores which calculates total fleet performance during any period of time. The driver briefing shows speeds and utilisation for the day, together with the corresponding acceleration and braking profiles for the same periods. Links are provided from the graphs to the actual map location of any speeding, braking or acceleration incidents. The driver is given an overall score for the day based on the factors shown in the next section.

Distribution of daily fleet driving style scores

This fleet tracking graph shows an analysis of 830,000 journeys, giving scores for 64,000 'driver days'.

As described above, the calculation of the acceleration and braking indexes and hence the fleet driving style score, are based on a 'per hour' calculation. Calculating the average per hour means that no fleet drivers are penalised for driving more or less than any other driver.

The Quartix fleet tracking system calculates the Daily Fleet Driving Style Score for each day, based on the amount of driving for that day or shift (excluding any parts of trips before the start or after the end of the day/shift). We apply colours to the Daily Fleet Driving Style scores as shown on the plot opposite. If the score is >80 it is green - this represents the best 30% of fleet drivers. If the score is between 50 and 80 it is shown as amber, and this represents the middle 50% of daily scores. 50 or below is red, and that's the worst 20%.

Fleet driving style league table reports

Fleet driving style scores can be compared across groups of vehicles, or even the whole fleet. Driver ranking can be carried out on acceleration or braking indexes as well as the overall fleet driving style score, and can also be measured over any selected period.

Once the fleet driving style score league table is compiled in the desired order and format, it can be exported to a csv file for further analysis in software such as Microsoft Excel.

Fleet driving style league chart

The Quartix fleet driving style league table can also be displayed in graphical format, as shown.

Many of our fleet tracking customers have reported significant savings in fuel costs: an improvement in the average fleet driving style score from 50 to 80 could result in savings of between 8% and 14% in fuel costs. The two fleet driving style graphs shown highlight the typical difference to be achieved in the daily driver briefing fleet tracking reports.

Driving style trend report

The Quartix Driving Style Trend report is a new report designed to enhance the Quartix Driving Style suite of reports.

Its aim is to give Fleet Managers, or those responsible for monitoring an employee’s driving style, a visual representation of the data and speed scores over the period of the report. This can then be used to identify any matters for concern which could be improved upon, or to commend good performance as part of an incentive scheme.

The report can be accessed via the Driving Style menu on the Quartix website and the Driving Style League table. Enter the required time period, run the report and then click on a vehicle. This will bring up a pop-up where you can select the Driving Style Trend report or the Daily Driver Briefing.

Once you have clicked the Driving Style Trend report option it will display the report for your chosen vehicle and time period selected. If you ran it for a month, you would see one months’ worth of data on the driving style trend report.

You are able to run it for any time period over the last twelve months, including being able to run it for the whole 12-month period.

You will then be presented with the following.

Within the notes section there is information on what is contained in the chart and links to more detailed information on how the driving style and speed scores are calculated.

You are also able to export the data behind the chart into a csv file that can then be manipulated using Microsoft Excel.

If you would like any additional information, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
